37th Annual Mahotsav 2012

Update: August 02, 2012: Mahotsav practice is on September 6, 2012. From 7.00 PM TO 10.30 PM.(Groups with participants aged 12 and under from 7PM to 9PMTeenagers and Adults  from 9:00PM to 10:30PM) Vellore Village Community Centre 1 Villa Royale Avenue Woodbridge, Ontario L4H 2Z7 A list will be made as groups come in. It will be first-come, first-served.  

UPDATE: June 20, 2012: We have added a Mahotsav Discussion page where you can post your own announcements to the general community. Examples of things you can post: "Need participants for garbo", "Need tailor for costumes", "Where can I find a place to practice our dance routines" etc...To have your announcement included on this page, please contact Kapil Bulsara

Item Registration: From June 1st, 2012 to Sunday August 19th, 2012 Contact: Purnima Pocha via email at mohotsav2012@gmail.com

To register your items for this year’s Mahotsav contact Purnima Pocha via email at mohotsav2012@gmail.com no sooner than June 1st and no later than August 19th. You will receive a confirmation email with your current song selections. Please register ALL the participants’ names. Participants are allowed to participate in a maximum of 2 ITEMS ONLY. The 37th Mahotsav has been scheduled to START at 12PM and CONCLUDE by 6PM PM. (Necessary Break/s will be scheduled). To have a reasonable 6-hour Mahotsav time limit, we are implementing the following rules:

  • DUPLICATE songs will NOT be allowed, unless a song has been used for less than 30 seconds
  • Only 3 individual songs per mix song item will be allowed.
  • We request that you chose age appropriate songs for your dance items
  • Kids (under 12 yrs): No Solo items will be allowed. Duet and group items are not to exceed 5 MINUTES.
  • Adults (13+ yrs) Solo/Duet items are not to exceed 5 MINUTES, and Group items are not to exceed 7 MINUTES.
  • Only ONE Drama item will be allowed. It should not exceed 20 MINUTES. Please provide your own microphones. First group to register will be in the show.
  • Only GUJARATI folk group dances (6 or more participants), will receive a reimbursement (maximum of $30/person) from the Mandal for costumes that are rented. We highly encourage adults to perform group folk dances to add our culture's richness to the event.
  • Audio CD’s: you must submit 2 COPIES. Test your own CD’s and CLEARLY label them with the name of your item. Submit these CD’s at least one week prior to the Mohatsav to the home of Purnima Pocha (59 Skylar Circle Brampton, ON)
  • Karaoke Items will NOT be allowed.
  • All items MUST be registered with the listed contacts; this includes Surprise items (SO NO SURPRISES for the committee members, NO EXCEPTIONS)
